The 12 most romantic places in West Kelowna (2024)

Quails' Gate Winery is a winery located in Kelowna, British Columbia that offers wine tours, tastings and accommodations on the property. The winery was founded by Gary Quails, who also owns and operates the Old Vines Restaurant on site. The winery has received awards for its wines, and is popular among tourists for its scenic location and award-winning wines.

One of the highlights of the trip! I would highly recommend the lunch special 3 course with matching wine pairings. Was outstanding as was the service of Kelly. The Okanagan was amazing for, but this ranks as one of the top locations we visited!

Food was perfect! Everything was extraordinarily delicious and well executed. Plating was good, wine was good too. Nothing to complain. Would be perfect if they make the sour dough bread complementary. But it’s fine.Easily the best restaurant in a winery in the region.

Very nice wines in reds or white. The view over the valley and Lake is worth a look all on its own. Had good food at Old vines restaurant.

Had an excellent tasting at Quails gate. Our server was top notch. Kim was very nice, friendly, knowledgeable, and I highly recommend asking for her. She was down to earth and made the experience that much better. The wine was great as I expected it would be. The location was perfect, and view from the balcony was breathtaking. We all enjoyed ourselves and can't wait to go back. Thanks Kim for a great time.

I am writing to commend our server, Amy, at the Old Vines Restaurant. We had dinner there for our anniversary and in all honesty, she provided THE best service I have ever had and I am not young! Her attention to the smallest details and knowledge of both the wines and menu were remarkable. She’s a keeper! Thank you Amy for making this so special.

Spontaneous stop and ended up signing up to the wine club. Beautiful spot with very nice staff and good wines. Brody was in charge of our tasting and he was extremely knowledgeable and keen about all the wines he poured us. A refreshing change from some other wineries we’ve been to. He genuinely seemed to love what he does and loved to share it with the guests. Couldn’t have enjoyed the experience more.

Had the pleasure to visit Quail Gate Winery and had to say that is one of my favourite spots when in Kelowna. Please make reservations, give yourself extra time to enjoy the grounds, make sure you do some wine tasting and take good wine home.If you get a chance please checkout their restaurant. The food and desserts are out of this world. You won’t be disappointed and will leave with a smile.#chicosreviews

This winery I was very excited to see, as many of my friends recommended it. Maybe I wasn’t lucky and what I experienced is not the norm. The service and staff were so awful that I cannot even remember the quality of their wine. They treated us as if we were asking to try their wine for free.I belong to the hospitality industry and perhaps look at the operations with a different mindset. Our server seemed a bit lost, not being very detailed on what she was giving us to taste, but what I disliked the most, was that she was wearing a dirty uniform. The other ladies in the front, were not welcoming at all. Since there were covid restrictions we are asked to stay in our tables and not move. I went to take a picture on the Quails Gate sign and I was yelled at. ( I attached the picture 😂) the camera capture the moment were I turned.Terrible experience, the only nice thing was: the view 😍 and we still took beautiful pictures together. We made the best out of it.I do not recommend them. But you may have a better experience than me.

Tasting was an excellent experience. Mini was fabulous, very knowledgeable and relatable and answered all our questions. Greeted with friendly faces and encouraged to wonder the amazing grounds.

We had the most amazing time at this vineyard! We had friends visiting from England and Quail’s Gate was on the list as I had been there before and the quality of wine, views and vineyard I knew would impress. What I wasn’t expecting was the phenomenal hospitality of Kim who amplified our experience beyond what I could have planned. Her professionalism paired with playfulness truly made it an exceptional visit.

Our family comes here once to twice a year for wine tasting. Today, Gabby served us and provided a very pleasant experience! She was very professional and knowledgeable, explaining each wine we tried, answering each of our questions, offering recommendations based on our individual preferences, and giving suggestions on what best to pair the wines with. We purchased some of the wines we tried and are excited to have them as recommended by Gabby! The atmosphere here is always friendly and beautiful. Thank you for such a great experience!

We had a truly memorable wine tasting experience at Quails Gate Winery today! My daughter was eager to show me a few of her favourite local vineyards and as a visitor from Ontario I was up for the challenge! Jerome’s vast knowledge of wines and his obvious passion on the subject made this experience first class. When we each expressed interest in purchasing a small quail as a memento, he went on a good natured search for all four colours available so we could make our decisions. Quails Gate Winery was BEST out of three wine tastings today!!!

Beaultiful winery with some good wines, specially the whites. The balcony behind the tasting area is breathtaking. The restaurant is very good, with 3 courses menu and wine pairing.

Dinner here with my wife and friend. Been years since my last visit. Our server, Brett was the ultimate professional. Friendly and prompt, also accommodating. We ordered 2 appetizers, a half bottle of gewurtz, 3 main dishes for each of us and the suggested wine pairing for my risotto. Dinner was a wonderful experience. Great ambiance though there were a few loud, slightly inebriated dinner guests nearby whose voices carried throughout the entire place. Nevertheless, enjoyed the meal and definitely a must for when you’re in the Kelowna area.

We were recommended Quails gate for a wine tasting tour, hence we did it. The overall experience was below average and there was no energy in the tour. Our guide was not very friendly unfortunately, she did not address us with the other groups, also forgot to pour us the wine when we were standing right there, we felt neglected.I’m guessing it depends on who your tour guide is and your experience can vary.I wish I would have just walked in like others and did the normal tasting, the tour was a flop.

We checked the reviews on Google map before we chose the winery. I called and tried to make a reservation but failed since no one answered it. Two clerks were chatting behind the counter when we arrived the hall but they didn’t care about us. We waited for a while and I had to ask for help. We chose the wine tasting, but too bad they didn’t offer any snacks to go with the wine. It’s a lovely place with spacious and well-decorated indoor space. The grape wine field is really gorgeous. We appreciated it a lot. There were many guests that afternoon and we had a very nice girl helping us with the wine tasting. Unfortunately, the white/ red wine we tried wasn’t satisfying. Some of the red wine was bitter, how disappointing.

We did a wine tasting and really enjoyed the experience! Travis, our host, was very knowledgeable and funny. We loved that he shared so much history and information on the wines we were tasting as the knowledge helped us better appreciate the wines.

Took some friends visiting from the Prairies for a wine tasting at Quail's Gate yesterday. It has been a few years since I had been there and had forgotten how the beautiful views are from the winery and how lovely the wines are. The staff who greeted us at the door were attentive and got us set up right away for our tasting on the balcony. PAULA, who facilitated our tasting, was welcoming, friendly, and very knowledgeable about the wines. She even provided us all with large glasses of ice water before starting the tasting, which was really appreciated on such a hot day.I (and my guests) loved the wine and the whole experience. We will definitely be back. Thanks Paula and Quail's Gate!

The price for wine samples was the highest that we paid in the valley. We paid for the first level which was $15 and I like bold red wine so bought the third level at $35. One of the reds from the first level was also in the third. I found that to be misleading. But the wines we ok at best. From doing sampling at Frind and Cedar Creek Quails Gate was a level below in flavour. My complaint is the price they charge for the tasting. Both other places were $10 a person and if you purchased , the tasting fee was free. That is not the case with Quails gate. We purchased wine at all 3 wineries. But will never go back to Quails Gate. You have out priced your wine tasting. Do a survey of your competitors, you may be surprised.I will definitely share my story and already have.

What a fantastic location with a beautiful view and tasting room, wonderful wines, and great staff!Travis gave us to an excellent tasting and was incredibly knowledgeable providing so many details about each wine we were tasting, including the history of the vineyards, vines, and even wine in general. It was very refreshing to talk with someone passionate about wine rather than just hearing a script that was memorized about the wine they’re pouring.I look forward to visiting again in the future!

This review is a tad bit overdue, but necessary. My family and I came to our reservation in July 2023, which we booked months in advance; We had friends from out of town join us (party of 2).When we arrived at the restaurant the initial hosts had no issue with us trying to sit together, it was the assistant manager that made a material issue out of the matter.I sat there discussing potential seating options with the assistant manager, who after much negotiation gave us a larger table inside (FYI, we never asked for a patio table, they allocated that to our original four top).I completely understand during the summer months how busy the restaurant can be and how limited seating can be, however the day and time we were there, there were open tables for the duration of our 3 hour stay and our $700 bill. The assistant manager that we dealt with was one of the most antagonist people I have met in any of the wineries that we have been to.

Recently my company rented a private room for our Christmas gathering. The food was absolutely delicious, the wine pairings were lovely and the portions were very generous. The service was second to none.My partner and I arrived early so we decided to partake in a wine tasting prior to dinner. Lark looked after us, and treated us like royalty. She was very professional, and extremely knowledgeable. She made the experience unforgettable, and was the best tasting experience I have ever had, and I have been to every winery in the valley. My only suggestion would be for you to invest in a large round or oval table, as it is better for socializing. Some of our team members we don’t get to see very often, and some of them live out of town, so it would have been better to see and talk to them throughout dinner in this type of setting.

The wine tasting was amazing! We were treated very nicely by Lark and she took her time with us and gave personalized recommendations for the tasting which made it a great experience. And of course the wines were delicious!

On Feb 18 2024, my long time friend reunited with me at Quails Gate to have wine and lunch to grieve for my mom who had just passed. We did a wine tasting with Lark and she must have sensed our vibe. She served us well and when we were in discussion, she sensed when to not talk to us about wines. Some wineries have staff that prioritize their presentation. Lark sensed when to interject and struck the perfect balance. She was lovely. Thank you to Lark!

Beautiful tasting room. Jerome lead us through an exceptional tasting experience that was both informative, and unpretentious. He has an encyclopedic knowledge and genuine passion for the wines of Quails' Gate.

We had a wonderful tasting experience here! The view is lovely and we learned so much. Val was incredibly knowledgeable and kind and we would highly recommend this winery and Val. :)

Our tasting was awesome! The senior somm Louise conducted a very professional and informative tasting. One of the best experiences I have had in the Okanagan. She is for sure, a wealth of knowledge! Will come back again! Cheers 🥂

What a joke. Disorganized & not good customer service. Went for a Visa Infinite Privilege Collector Wine Tasting. They had us wait 15min. so we walked down to the outdoor pergola closest to Lake Okanagan. Then got summoned for wine tasting spot. Walked all the way back to the main pavilion. They only had indoor tastings available. Who wants that on such a beautiful sunny Sunday? Asked to do it outdoors overlooking lake down at far end of vineyard, nope can’t. Have to go down there & re-register. So we did. Only to be told they ran out of clean wine glasses! & ran out of cold white wines & Chardonnay! & we couldn’t have our wine tasting in their Old Vines Restaurant during Happy Hour. Each section is separately run! It was the most chaotic unrelaxing winery experience of our lives! Compared to wineries Tuscany, Verona, Venice, France, Portugal, Spain, Sonoma, Napa & even Niagara wineries! Luckily we just had to drive a bit further down Boucherie Rd. to FRIND Winery which friends highly recommended. Wow!! Sat on bar table outdoors, quick friendly service. Great pizza, wine, wonderful views, ambience, families, a guitar playing musician, lake & mountain views!! Skip Quail’s Gate corporate greed. Go to Frind instead.

Lovely winery! Valerie was a FANTASTIC guide for our wine tasting on Friday. Will be back!

Turner G — Google review

Lark took us on a fantastic adventure exploring different wines and their nuances. She was able impart knowledge and help us fully explore our own preferences. Lark made this a fun and exciting experience! The lake views are beautiful. We did not explore the rooms as we were only there for wine tasting and dining.

Sad to write a bad review; however, we unfortunately had a terrible experience at Quail's Gate Wine Tasting. Upon reception, our forcibly whimsical Wine Tourer Travis made us feel hurried and a number, rushing us all together in a pack. The group were subsequently IDd in a lineup, like entering a back alley nightclub, where we were requested to produce x2 pieces of ID. My Father, who is white haired AND IN HIS 70s, who hasn't pulled out his ID since the Cold War felt humiliated. I understand that there is process, but this was a first for him after 50 years of wine tasting.A member of the party was also refused the wine tasting due to not having a 2nd ID, which was an embarrassment to watch. After speaking with them, they informed that they were not refunded, and forced to drink water on the tour. An awkward embarrassment, especially with 19 year olds in the group. The tour itself felt rushed and we left feeling wholly uneducated, with Travis seemingly enjoying talking more about himself rather than the actual wine - which one may describe as chuggable, spicy raspberry juice at best. Unsurprising, given the establishment is seemingly frequented by 90% drunken hen parties. Avoid. Go to Mission Hill.
